[CHICKENS-101] Back to Individual Emails for me !

I let my new little birds "free range" for the first time yesterday.
My older egg layers were a bit tough on some of the young little birds.
So , they ran from the others allot.
I did keep my coat hanger stretched out nearby.
I had to trip one RIR hen for fighting, she went back in to the coop and pouted for the rest of the afternoon.
The new birds are Welsumers (16) and 2 guineas.
They all arrived via mail @ Feb 3rd as day old chicks.
Now just at 2 months old they are doing very well.
I also have another coop I call "Silkie Mansion". I have yet to let my Silkies out with the others.
The big hens might hurt the little prince and princesses, so they get special treatment.
They are just so danged fussy and cute.
I sit at the mansion door and we visit allot.
I plan to set them up with a separate little chicken tractor soon.
So for food:
I am giving them plenty of chick starter, a tidbit of cayenne in it,garlic in their water, boiled crushed egg shells and kitchen scraps.
They love fruits and I had some slightly old frozen bruised tomatoes and green beans from last years garden.
Well, they are gobbling these treats right up.
I will never throw out one bean ever again LOL.
My next thing to think about adding is maybe a pro biotic or simply other food types.
I did add a bit of ground up all stock and some Milo.
They went crazy for the Milo and the tidbits of cracked corn.
I give them a boiled egg treat once a week and several meat scraps for protein.
So , I guess they are getting plenty of variety.
Kindly, Marilyn n Fischer TX
