Re: [CHICKENS-101] 4-H clubs

I about fell off the bleachers the first time I saw a girl get close to $500 for a rabbit!  And then the 'buyer' donated it back to the girl to be auctioned off a 2nd time and she got upwards of $80/lb .....  I didn't know then that local businesses are actually 'recruited' ahead of time to purchase the animals and it basically amounts to a scholarship for the kid and a tax deduction for the business.

Yes and they are judged both for their animal and knowledge.  Wish I could get the prices the kids get at fair ....

4-H is a youth organization that originated with farming and agriculture.  The H's stand for Health, Hands, Heart and Head.  It now includes every 'project' imaginable and the youngster goes through all the steps outlined for a successful completion.  Like with sheep it would be from bottle feeding the lamb, care, grooming, and raising it to market age.  Kids take their livestock to the annual fair where 4-H animals are auctioned and bring good prices.
