I am adding dandelions to the chick's diet along with their chick crumbles. I want to add some protein. I was thinking black sunflower seeds like you get for wild bird seed.

Will the sunflower seeds balance the dandelions? And do I smash the seeds a bit to break the shells open? And will they know to eat the seeds and not the shells? They are 73 two week old chicks and 8 one week old chicks.

I have fields of dandelions and I want to plant the sunflowers.

I have some fodder going now, first batch of wheat has just sprouted.
