On the plus side, I live in northern Ca. so humidity is not an issue, so I do use metal feed cans and they work a treat.
On the negative side, I do not deal with mice, all cute and fuzzy, we have rats, and not your basic roof rat, we have river rats.
I have trapped some that were over 8" long, not counting the tail.
My weirdo neighbor thought they were cool, so she fed them, now I feed them, to the buzzards J

Metal cans sweat so if you use a metal can make sure your feed is sealed in heavy duty garbage bags or you'll end up with moldy feed and DEAD hens.
