Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Over run with deer

Cassie, I can't be tied down by a dog, their training,  and their needs.  Between helping my parents, their appointments,  my own, working, and my chickens I do not have time to take care of a dog.  Especially on a farm.  I am done with dogs, especially rescue dogs. Before the Catahoula (who the owners lied about her age said she was 7 or 8; when her papers came she was 11)  there were 3 rescue dogs, 2 pekes and a shitz shu that were supposedly house broken.  Seven years of diapers on their pee'ers and diapers off because they'd come in and pee in the house.  No more dogs until I have the time to get a puppy and train it myself. I am done with rescues and needy dogs.
I reported the people who keep 3 buckets of feed out for them, that attracts them here.

Cathryn,

Sorry to hear you are still grieving your lost dog. Deer are a giant pain. I think the best approach is to fence in what you can. Don't do anything to attract them and chase them away. I've had them walk right up on my back deck and eat every leaf off of my Meyers lemon tree to the point I thought I was going to lose the tree. I put my two dogs on the back deck during the day now and I haven't had a problem since.

Maybe in honor of your sweet dog that passed, you could find another good dog to love that would help you keep the deer away.

Good luck with the deer. It's too bad we can't somehow just put out deer traps for them. I consider them giant rodents.

I cannot deal with a dog right now.  In fact I am not sure I ever want another after having my 15 year old Catahoula put to sleep.
