while my hens sometimes do this, it never seems to cause the same amount of
terror that it did with the roosters doing it. They tend to just squat and
let the other hen do what she feels she has to do, but there is no running,
squawking or trying to get away or avoid that other hen at all cost. They
aren't looking over their shoulders all the time to keep an eye on the
whereabouts of that rooster. It may not be normal for hens to live without
a rooster, but mine sure seem to be a lot happier that way
