> Just because something doesn't have a penis, it doesn't mean it isn't capable of sexual assault. I have seen roosters deliberately terrify a hen to force her into submission. Yes, chickens do have their own social system and yes a hen can dump the sperm if she doesn't like the rooster. But that's about as comforting as a woman can go douche if she didn't like her assailant. I have seen some roosters "court" their hens...all the wing dance and carrying on...the hen will either ignore him, or 'assume the position' if she is in the mood. This is the kind of rooster we keep around here. Given the choice like that, we find homes for our disrespectful roosters and keep the ones who seem to be more kind and peaceful. Our hens are very dear to us and we can't stand seeing them tormented just because "nature intended it that way". Obviously, nature gives you a choice since there actually ARE "nice" roosters.
