[CHICKENS-101] feed question

I noticed a bag of shredded beet pulp at TSC the other day.
It was a big bag: 25# in the horse feed section,
so I couldn't buy it till I was sure: is this a reasonable feed for
chickens,
or a treat, or not acceptable? It's a staple for older horses, I'm
told: when
well-soaked it's yummy and encourages older horses with worn-down teeth
to eat well and keep weight on. Will it keep my chickens warm through the
winter or should I not buy it?

I've read that feed beets, otherwise called mangels, are an excellent winter
food for chickens, but I don't know if the beets in this bag are mangels.
