I had it done some years ago for that reason--mainly because of things like the camp incident with the skunk under my cot, also a rabid fox that came through the camp (in daylight, so we got all the kids gathered inside the main arena...)  No worse than a tetanus shot, although I did turn out to be one of the 5% who show flu-like symptoms within 10 days (hit me on the tenth day--at a horse show!)  I suppose I ought to have the titers checked... they really didn't know how long it would be effective at the time.
