I'm going to contact the woman who gave me the chicken. She said it was some kind of Marans.
My idea was to have eggs and chicken meat, but I'm getting sucked in. I've always liked chickens. I like to see them running around.
I wonder if some people here make a small business of selling meat and eggs? I haven't priced the meat, but someone told me that free range chickens, no antibiotics goes for $6/lb or so.
I'm trying to hold off going out to check the chicken this morning so my son will have the thrill of finding the egg if there is one.

> My personal experience. Docile birds with the like produce the same. I had a Blue Andalusian X EE bantam. OMG! Beautiful little hen, but extremely high strung. Fox got her. At the moment I have a Turken X Black Star roo who is a nice rooster. He thinks he's tiny and will jump up on my arm when I go to freed them. I also have a Silkie X Du'clle chick still in the brooder who is showing signs of being a high strung bird. In general tho, I find that mutts make prettier birds and can be calmer.
