[CHICKENS-101] Re: Bloody egg

Hi Diana: Checking my bible. "Storey's Guide to RAISING CHICKENS" I found one paragraph on bloody eggs. (JANE STOP LAUGHING) If is caused by a rupture inside the bird of course. It is most common in pullets that are not full grown. The book indicates the cause can also be too much protein in the feed or coccidiosis, the disease causes internal bleeding. Look for blood in the droppings.

I've gotten in the habit of checking everyday at the same time looking for her egg shortly after she lays to avoid the pecking, let alone the cannibalizing. So far it's working, but I wonder why she is bleeding. She doesn't have a prolapsed cloaca and I don't see any blood anywhere else but on the egg.
