[CHICKENS-101] Re: feed stores

.If any feed store manager has any sense at all they order chicks according to the usual weather prediction. No bets this year. It's close to 50 deg here in New Hampshire and there's a snow storm in Virginia. $3.00 a chick is pretty standard. Some States regulate how many you have to buy. The minimum varies from State to State, here in NH I think it's a dozen now. This is to stop the sale of "Easter Chicks" Altho I think you can still find them in Easter colors. Before we get into it a vegtable is injected into the egg. The color will last ubtil the first molt, about 4 weeks. It doesn't hurt the chick.
OK the big "know-it-all" has a question. There is a mystery. Checking McMurray and Ideal hatcheries standard pullets. RIR's, Red Sex Links, Leghorns etc. Pullets are not available until mid-march or later. Ideal doesn't even look like it's in business. Males are available NOW. So, given that half the eggs hatched will be one way or the other what do they do with all the pullets in the February hatch?
Ol' George, who's definitely not as smart as he thinks he is.
