[CHICKENS-101] Re: Chicken feed ain't cheap

Hi Jenn: The grain companies have worked out the most economical formula for various stags in the life of a chicken, I know I am going against the trend and sometimes the grain companies make terrible mistakes.(think Toyota). But I think most of it is OK. I buy from my local feed store that carries Poulin produces as a house brand. This is an alternative to the big companies. Having said all that the best thing for your chickens is pasture. Free ranged to feed as nature intended on insects and vegetation of their choosing. Next best is probably garbage. Fresh or composted, table scraps and peelings provide a lot of nutrition combine with commercial feed.
OT: Granby apple orchards brings back a lot of memories.
