Nancy, Chickens are omnivores and insectivores and need the protein for laying eggs, growth and development, feather growth and replacement, ET... It's not important, it's a marketing tool for people who think it is in and do not know better or do know better and do not care.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] why vegan?

Ok. I am reading with great interest all of the posts. Funny thing is, I think it creates more questions than answers!! But that's ok. I need to learn this stuff!
Question for today: I see where Deb posted yesterday about the white yoke. She made a point is saying that the eggs she bought were from vegan chickens. I have also see ads on TV from chicken producers making a point in saying that thier chickens are only fed fruits and veggies. Why is this important? Chickens aren't by nature vegan!
Thanks!
