Number one: Cockerels and roosters do not rape pullets or hens. Breeding is the correct term, and is what chickens are programed biologically to do. If you do not want a rooster or cockerel breeding a hen or pullet, pen the hen and/or pullet or your cockerel/rooster separate. Birds have their own social system and the male bird breeding the female is part of it. If the female does not like the male who bred her she can dump his sperm.
Roosters and cockerels BREED hens and pullets. If the hen/pullet does not like the rooster/cockerel she can dump his sperm. If you have a pullet that is too immature to be in with a cockerel/rooster then pen her separate. I do not pen young pullets and cockerels with my older chickens for the reasons/problems Emily stated below in her email.

Emily, you sound so much like my daughter. She's VERY close to her chickens, especially the hens and she can't stand seeing the hens "raped" by the roosters. We've gone through ALOT of roosters, until we found ones who were gentle and respectful to the hens. She has one village that's just hens, and no rooster at all. 6 sweet little Banty girls, SO cute and so beautiful...we call that village "The Girls Club". The hens don't need, and for the most part don't like roosters at all. I wouldn't let a rooster hurt the hens. Do you really need one?
