Deb, There was a pair of hawks working the lower up pasture up to the coops. I sat still in a chair watching them. When I moved they took off. Makes me wonder if one of them is one I went after with a shovel last year. When I let my egg layers outside with me, when I go into a barn I notice that my rooster calls his hens in! Hawks and eagles are our bane along with raccoons and opossums. At night everyone is locked up with fans running even though I predator fenced.

We live near the rail road tracks, and the coyotes will howel when they hear a train comming, long before WE hear it. We're guessing they are warning their "brothers" to get off the tracks. But our biggest problem here is Foxes and HAWKS. We have to have 2 people supervise the chickens now when they go out to free range. The hawks are horribly bold.
