I have to laugh at this! I know we are a large group and have varying interests and needs and what is too much for one may be nothing to another.
Right now I have 26 red stars that were hatched in March. 12 Silkies, down from 25. 12 Game chicks. Four frizzled bantam cochins. Five
It is not so much the numbers of chicks, but the numbers of pens and waterers and feeders.
I am going to gradually add the keepers to other pens, but need to do so gradually and at night when all is quiet and COOLER, sometime in the future.
It is in high 90’s and it took me over an hour to water/electrolyte everyone yesterday……….oh, and about 40-50 full grown free ranging chickens, three full grown turkeys and about 20 guineas. (+ or – a few)
I rsvp’d regrets to my family for a July 4th get together. They live 2.5 hours from us and I explained that with this heat we are watering in the a.m. and afternoon. Adding electrolytes and taking ice out. Our son is working all day on the 4th, so we can’t ask him to do the afternoon watering, not to mention the alpacas and goats to water. Nobody in my family can relate to anyone having to do outside chores because nobody else is on a farm………..my sister thinks I am exaggerating. I wish!
Does anyone else find themselves changing their plans due to the heat and their animals’ needs?

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Re: crazy momma hen
………………………I don't need anymore chicks... I have 3 hens laying (down to 2 now that Olivia is being a momma) and then husband found a chick in the parking lot at work, so got it a buddy and they are about 6-8 weeks old. So that makes 5 and now this baby...ugh... they keep multiplying...LOL.. My neighbors are going to be none to happy with me..
But I am thoroughly enjoying this.
