I think I would start by asking her how her kids got the rabbits to begin with. Then ask her if she realizes that domestic rabbits have no idea how to fend for themselves in the wild. Next you could explain that the diseases that wild rabbits carry are something new to the domestic rabbits she released and that may very well have killed them in short order. Or that since they were domestic, they would have no idea how or where to hide from predators in the area. I doubt they made it a week before they were gone. That is cruel if you ask me. The fact that your 12 chickens have 5000 square feet to live in is amazing. They have plenty of food, plenty of water and medical care when they need it. They are protected from predators. Not a bad life at all if you ask me.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] a little rant
Hi, I don't post often but I think I will this time. Maybe somebody smarter than me might have an opinion. I have 12 chickens and 1 duck. The enclosed area is about 50' by 100', the coop is about 10by 10. They get fresh water everyday plenty of chicken food and leftovers. A friend of mine was over today and looking at the animals. She started telling me how sorry she felt for the chickens being kept in a cage like that. Animals should allowed to be free not cooped up. The duck is a rescue. She had a mangled wing and injured foot. The man who had her was just going to kill her and throw her away. My daughter took her and nursed her back to health. My friend accused me of not taking good enough care of our animals! I should let them loose in the wild, she did that to her kids rabbits. I was fuming. I don't know how to defend myself or if I should even try. But I can say I do everything I can to make sure our animals are well cared for and have plenty of room to roam. Thanks for reading this and letting me vent. Angela
