There is a difference between a skunk 'whiffing' and 'spraying'. Whiffing is done during mating season (occurring now in my area) or when skunks are playing with each other. It's a watered down version of a good spraying and won't linger long. Kind of like sitting next to a little old Granny in church ;)
Spraying is done when a skunk feels threatened and that's when they cut loose with a potent dose. It can be aimed and shot up to 20 feet with accuracy.
The Skunk-Be-Gone works fairly well however, it smells as bad as the skunk juice....acky pooey.

Our resident stinker either had an unwelcome visitor or was freightened by a shadow because it's going to take weeks to air out the barn. I wonder if it will discourage the little rodents that are poping up everywere?
