Deb,
> I just pray to GOD I'll never have to live near someone who employes a LGD. From what I'm told, these dogs run their perimeter fence and literally bark all night long.
I think nobody really wants a dog that barks all night. Some LGDs bark more than others. I have a few that rarely bark and others that bark a lot more, I have close neighbors and I bring most of my dogs inside at night and the quieter ones have night duty, some in the dog runs behind my bedroom, the dog runs adjoin the goat and chicken area, so the dogs are right next to the goats and chickens and can see/hear what's going on, a couple dogs usually patrol the other side of the property but if they start barking a lot I bring them inside.
the only time when the barking gets really bad is when coyotes hang out too close, but then all the dogs in the neighborhood go wild, so not just my LGDs.
