Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Pete

I do recall that years ago I could get excess produce from the local market and even trim and bones for my dogs.  Then it all came to an end :-( Yes I know it is because of lawsuits but who suffers.... not the ambulance chasers they just find other fools to sue and bigger fools for clients.  I suppose the landfill rats are happy for the additional food supply.  It's just when there are 10's of thousands of children dieing for lack of food, clean water and simple medicine how can we as members of the same human race sleep at night ?  The less waste the more  we have in the coffers so the more we can share.........
Sorry off soap box ......

I've tried to get the groceries to give me the produce they toss out in the trash (perfectly good to eat in most cases) for the wildlife I have and also for my birds in the winter. They insist it's `against the law' to do this as they can't take the chance that I will go home, eat it myself and get sick. Funny how nothing seems to happen to big corporations when they poison us with food that we've PAID for.
I did manage to shame a local grocery into giving me what they toss after I signed a paper stating that I was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator (had to show my licenses) and what my intent for the food was. Evidently, this gets them off the hook although I'd venture to say, anyone eating `garbage' and getting sick would not have a case to begin with. My guess is that they just don't want hungry people hanging around begging for food.
We waste so much of everything in this country :(
