I'd give both chick feed and let momma hen have a month with her chick.  Cathryn

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] One baby chick

One of our old girls went broody and sat for about 30 days with no eggs hatched. She would not give up even when I took the eggs away so I gve her another 4 eggs to sit on. Thursday one of them hatched. I left the other eggs until yesterday to make sure they were not going to hatch and threw them away. Momma is very attentive to her little chick. My question is, how to make sure the chick is getting baby food while the mom gets grown up food? Both mom and baby love watermelon!!!! Also when do I start re-introducing mom to the flock? She is isolated in the barn while the others are running around the property during the day. I don't want to keep her alone forever but I do want to make sure the baby is safe.
Thanks in advance for all of your great suggestions. This is a wonderful group for novices like me.
