I pile it separately when I clean out the coops. Later, I layer it in a compost pile (or a bin, either works fine) with grass clippings and weeds pulled from the garden. layer of manure, weeds on top, manure on top of that, clippings on top of that, manure on top of that, fall leaves on top of that, manure on top of that, etc, etc. The manure helps break down the weeds, clippings, and leaves much faster than they will on their own. Let it break down and then spread it on the garden the next spring before tilling up for spring planting. Your garden will thank you come harvest time. The only time I put it directly on the garden is when cleaning  a coop in the fall when I will spread mowed/bagged leaves on the garden and then put manure on top of that right out of the coop. I let that over-winter and till it under in spring.

Hello,
I would like some tips on composting chicken manure. Is it better to just make a pile and let it compost or is it better to compost the manure in a bin? I'd love to hear how others compost.
