[CHICKENS-101] Re: Help! Egg Bound / Maggots

Hi Anitia,

Ugh! I know what you mean about missing that old hen. There were a few that I really attached to that I've lost. It's such a bummer when that happens. Sounds like you did a lot of hard work with her. I really give you credit for that. It's nice when all the hard work pays off. I have a few that I've saved by working on them, it's very rewarding when they make it.

Egg binding is such a tough thing because there isn't much you can do with that. I know I've lost hens to that, but was never really sure if that was the issue that caused their death. It's so odd. I eat chicken, dress it when I cook it. But I can't do an autopsy on one of my own to see if she was bound or riddled with worms or something.
I just can't do it. But the curiosity as to why I lost them bothers me for a while. Sorry to hear you lost her the next season. But hey! you got to enjoy her and prolonged her life for some time after the injury. I think I will add a photo of the acutal hen I just saved. Her name is butter scotch. Being that the only photos of her posted are of her vent opening. She's a pretty Buff Orphington.
Anna
