[CHICKENS-101] Re: After mating how soon do the eggs begin?

 

Hi Lisa; perhaps I'm not understanding your question. But..Mating has nothing to do with a hen laying eggs. Laying fertile eggs is another story. Depending on the breed hens usually start to produce eggs between 4 and 6 months this time of the year whether there is a rooster around or not. Production Reds are normally about 16 to 20 weeks while some of the heritage and/or "Show chickens" can take much longer.
