The water needs to be in a clear bag with a couple of pennies so it reflects and gets rid of the flies.  I think the flies get confused and scared because they have so many eyes and it must be hard for them to figure out.   Susan

How about filling balloons with water? Would it work? I would look festive instead of strange.
