Yes, 'J' if you share with us where you live, those in the same region can recommend what works for them.  I'm in Lower Alabama and my chickens live in wire dog kennels with fiberglass roofs.  Each pen has a small plastic house they can go into, and I have Tyvek around the back and the 2 ends of the continuous 40 foot row of pens. 

In states where it snows, my method would be totally unacceptable.

depends on your climate and weather what type of coop you need. I have an old green house type coop but the chickens sleep most of the time in the open part where the perches are. I am in the coastal mountains of claifornia temps in winter get down in the 20s at night and in summer will get in the 100s at times.
