I'm not an expert on chickens. In fact I'm just starting out.
But... I have had to bathe chickens: poopy butts and egg binding. I used the same protoco that I have used with cats. I wash them in warm water using Dawn dish detergent. Dawn is safe to use on animals. Then I rinse then thoroghly and wrap them in a bath towel and hod them for a while. Talk about a whole new meaning to chicken burrito! The towe will wick away most of the water. Then I gently blow dry them without ruffling feathers too much. When they are mostly dry I put them in a cat carrier lined in incontenent underpads. The carrier goes on top of a heating pad and is in a warm, quiet dark room. The warmth, darkness and quiet helps calm them down and they are good to go the next day. Oh yes, they have food and water avaiable in those little cups that snap onto the carrier grate.

Anyway, I get out to the barn/coop to find the pen with the leghorns in it soaked. Both pens on either side are dry as are the birds in them. Choice word leghorns like to make a mess with any waterer I've put in there so far. Well two young birds (d'uccle and cornish) were dead from being soaked :(. Two more were in bad shape. Got their pen cleaned out and fresh bedding, etc. Brought the two live soaked ones in the house and they've perked up under heat lamp. Oh I gave everyone involved outside and in medicated water with red cell to help. Now how long should I keep these two inside?
