[CHICKENS-101] Re: Newbie with Silkie Question

Ronna, I tried my silkies with my standard breeds and my egg layer chickens were mean to them. If you are going to get larger hatchery bred silkies rather than the vaulted skull show/pet, they might be ok. Even George keeps his silkis separate from his egg layers.
I bought my farm up north with cash too. Both sides of the Ausable River w/ acreage, then bought another 5.6 acres. I need to build barns too. Since there are so many predators I think I will build another garage for the car, ORV's, tractors, et... and use my 2.5 car attached garage as my pens and coop. I have an area off to the side I can triple pen from bears, et... My mud room can double as my hatchery and my brooder room. I am going to sell part of my woods where the trees are too close to finance my building.
I'd like to add a built in closet with washer, dryer, and built in ironing board. Cathryn

There is no barn on the property and will be about 4 months before we can build using cash only. We want to get our chickens and ducks started because it will take a while for them to mature and begin to lay. There are also a lot of coyotes and other predators in the area. A chicken tractor and a separate duck tractor we enable us to begin our quest with a minimum outlay of cash for the present.
