Re: [CHICKENS-101] Help requested for hurt chick Attn: Georgia W.

Oh no, she's not outside. I'm keeping her in a snug little container with
heat lamp in my greenhouse. I brought her inside the house but she was
peeping so loudly and thrashing around without company, and was not a happy
camper. She at least settled down with another chick 'next door' to keep
her entertained. She's one of my Buff Orphington's and next door is a
Barred Rock. The BR (Rambo) had a bum leg when she arrived, but is getting
around really good the past few days. I don't know if she was injured
during the trip or just what was wrong with her. I took her to the Vet a
week ago and he thought it was genetic. I don't think so now because she's
doing so well. She will be my most favored baby. She's such a beautiful
and laid back pullet. My babies were hatched on the 12th of February and
delivered on Valentine's day. I got them from Murray McMurray Hatchery in
Iowa and they are all pullets.

Today, I moved 40 babies out to their new home and they are all so happy.
We put up some little perches and boards for playing on and they seemed to
adjust perfectly. I had about 1/3rd of the house partitioned off for now,
and perhaps will give them about 2/3rd tomorrow or Wednesday. I just want
to make sure when I open the front door, I don't get a few babies flying out
into their yard. The fence is 2 X 4" chicken wire, and I'm sure they could
go through that and into the pasture with a horse and goat. I'd rather not
take any chances with those babes.

Funny, but people who have never had chickens don't know what they are
missing. They are such fun and so entertaining, not to mention lovable.

Oh! I'm right south of Macon, Georgia and we are experiencing some really
bad thunderstorms now. Please watch your weather there in Alabama. I've
seen where you are having tornado watches. Take care and have a safe
evening.
