Re: [CHICKENS-101] Double Yolk Eggs & Citrus

Hi Ruth, welcome to Chickens-101.

Yes, if you clip just 1 wing of each chicken, they should be off balance enough they can't clear the fence.  If that doesn't work, perhaps you could add netting above the existing fence.  It's lightweight, easy to handle and practically invisible from a distance  .And it's inexpensive.

Double yoke eggs hatching I know nothing about but don't believe I'd want to try it.  I'd be worried about having a conjoined chick.

What kind(s) of chickens do you have?  Mine are Silkie, Russian Orloff, Brabanter, Polish, OEGB and Lakenvelder.

I believe I have had just one double yoke egg, as it was bigger than prior eggs. I put it under one of my silkie hens, but it didn't hatch out. Not sure if it was fertile or not. I've read that only like 50% of them do hatch, and of that only like 50% of them survive. I was just wondering if anyone has hatched out a double yolk egg, and what came from it.

We're new to chickens 9 months ago, and I'm new to this group. Looking to learn from the group posts.

Is it correct that chickens should not be given citrus?

To keep chickens from going over 5 ft. fencing, is it best to clip a wing?

Ruth
