[CHICKENS-101] Re: Non traditional meat

I agree that the original intent of the no-slaughter equine law was totally screwed up once all of our politicians had to put their name and two cents in. It was originally intended for HUMANE transport and slaughter of all equines.

I have been an avid horsewoman for many years- own 6 and happen to have 2 rescues that I have rehabbed and now have for sale. I am a farm girl who also hunts to fill the freezer for my family There is only so much our local rescue agency can do. There are currently thousands of horses that are lame and/or considered unuseable. In the wild they would have been cast off and killed by prey but in captivity they are being starved to death and/or abused. The laws need to be corrected. I love and could not eat my own horses but also believe all of our bleeding heart city boy politicians need to stay out of the next vote or start to think more globally (out of their back yard). Horse meat is typically a very healthy meat similar to venison (deer). There's my two cents................
By the way - I'll tag on with one of the other writers- snake, rabbit, squirrel, turtle, gator, buffalo, horse and other wild game can all be very healthy and tasty. Opossum and coon however eat a lot of trash and dead meat and tend to carry a lot of germs and worms.
