Because the grit will tear up the gizzard/side effect of the medications. The instructions are in most of the avian medication direcitons and in the Poultry Health Handbook written by Dr. Dwight Schwartz DVM Penn State (and Michigan- Dr Schwartz was a dearly beloved , brilliant research avain scientist and vet, loved world wide; I was honored to meet him before he passed away and while he worked in Michigan).
