I love my kindle, but only for certain things. I like fiction and usually am not interested in having an actual book for them. For any of my reference books, gardening, homesteading etc. I want a real book I can look back at and refer to anytime. For my children's books ( I am a collector), I want a real book. I want to show the kids the pictures and drawings. So, I love both.

I love to read, but can no longer see well enough to read regular books. Without my devices I'm afraid I would no longer be able to read at all.

Mary, I do not download anything on my lap top unless it is school work or up dates I have to have.  I'll admit to liking my books to have a hard or paper back cover.  Then I can refer back to my books with out a device.  I get enough technology at school to last me at home and the weekends.

You can download the PC desktop or laptop version if Kindle for free. I did long ago, and also have trouble-free downloading of their books (both their free ones and for $ ones) ever since.

Thank you Cassie, I was going to say that exact same thing!

And boy, compared to everything else I've seen out there, Kindles don't appear to even begin to make the 'high priced' list........

Yes you did miss out. Amazon has lots of free ebooks all the time. A kindle is nice and I love mine but I also read the books with a free app on my smartphone. I also downloaded the free kindle reader to my computer. I can read any of the books on any of the 3.
Some books are free only for a day or 2 at a time.
Some people gather a list of free books and shares them with other people, or posts a list on their blog.
I have about a thousand books on my kindle and most of those are free. Some fiction but most are homesteading type books.

I may be completely wrong here but i think we have a mis-comunication between us (lol) ..... as i was referring to the Original post about chicken book and end results were to buy a kindle to read it  /// not the one about Amazon's books  ...........
