Ditto to all previous comments! (I especially liked the suggestion to turn the friend "free" in certain parts of Chicago...)
Your friend has no concept of good animal husbandry, obviously. Now if she were sounding off on CAFOs--Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations--that would be another matter... but healthy animals with plenty of room, plenty of food, and humans supervisiong them...?
<g> Brings to mind one particular Inaugural Parade we were in--a bunch of PETA types began screaming at us to "Free the horses! Free the horses!" Hmmmm... Turn them free, right there on Pennsylvania Avenue?? And as far as being exploited--the one I was riding (one I had bred and raised) was one of the rare horses who truly understood an audience--he was quite sure the whole affair had been put on simply so that all those people could admire his handsome self. (That horse *knew* he had a good thing--I could "turn him free" and he'd stick around for the company!)
