I have one with 2 chicks they are three weeks old now. She made a mess in the coop scratching around and such. Its just their natural way of teaching them to forage for food and bugs and such. I was a bit worried they wouldn't get food or water, and would have to clean the water several times a day and the heat. But they are doing fine thriving, growing and doing good. She even got scratched up by something ( a cat I believe) the other night protecting them. It should be fine

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] crazy momma hen
This is my first time with a momma hen and she has only 1 chick. She has been scratching at the box constantly throwing shavings into the food and water and then overturning said food and water. Took her out of the box and put her in the coop/pen area and she is still going nuts scratching at the dirt with her poor baby being run everywhere.
Is this a normal thing or do I need to remove the chick and let her be?
She is obsessed and hasn't settled down for more than a few minutes.
