I took in a young (6 weeks? guessing) americuna (sp?) pullet that was being picked on from a friend of mine who has been pretty sick (hospitalized) herself and unable to care for her way-too-many chickens the way she wants to...
so this poor thing stinks to high heaven and is all blinky...one eye stays shut most of the time and the other is only open 1/2 the time. Alot of her feathers are missing and she looks pretty raggedy. Seems a bit off balance and not perky.
I don't even know where to start to help this poor thing. don't know what could be wrong with it. I put vitamins in the water and it is in a dog crate in my backyard for the day (in the shade) with clean water and chick food and one small companion I also got from my friend that won't pick on her. I will put them in the basement tonight.
what else should I do? she really does smell bad. had evidently been huddling in a yucky corner trying to hide from the others. I feel so bad for her. would it be detrimental to try to bathe her at this point? (how DO you bathe a chicken anyway?) shouls I be giving her any kind of medication? I am very new to chickens and all mine have been in excellent health so I have no experience to draw from here.
any advice would be so welcome!
