[CHICKENS-101] Re: Winterized Coop

 

My coop is 4*12. I have no insulation, no heat, and a 1/2 gap between the top of the wall an the roof on the 4' sides. My birds are healthy and happy.
A friend of mine had a huge coop probably 20*10, and one of the 20' side's walls only 1/3 there- meaning the wall was only 7feet long, and the rest was wide open. the birds roosted in the area that had 3 walls. Needless to say, he didn't use insulation or heat. He kept birds like that for at least 10 years. No losses to cold, but a few to predators.

I think the biggest consideration is the age and breed of your birds.
