Hi Everyone,
I found a 4-year old hen last night with her comb flopped over and when I picked her up she is very, very skinny...light as a feather. She didn't go roost with the others, just wanted to sit on the ground by the feeder - broke my heart. So she is in the foyer in a box, happy to eat bread soaked in milk and pick at a mash I made up with ACV, kelp, feed and corn. No poopy bottom, but she had a small poop and it looked normal.
She doesn't seem to want to drink, so I think wormer in water might not get into her. Is there a dose that I can give her on bread? I was reading the archives 2 drops of injectable Ivomec... is there a dose for Wazine? I have a bottle of that that I've not opened.
I raise sheep so I also have all the different ones on hand (oral, injectable Ivomec, Valbazen,... and also have a package of sulfadimethoxine powder, but that makes a huge amount. Is there a formula for a small batch? I have other antibiotics too - LA 200, etc... I think I'd have a hard time giving a chicken a shot though so I'd rather give her oral medications since she's eating treats if I feed her.
I'd appreciate any words of wisdom - she's such a sweet chicken. The fact that she's skinny must mean this has been going on for a while, and not sudden heat stress or anything I'm thinking.
Take care,
Alisa
