Re: [CHICKENS-101] Heat and hatching

Heat can affect the embryos.  Your chickens and ducks seem to have it under control per what you wrote. Cathryn

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Heat and hatching

We thankfully are near the end of our most recent heat wave in the So East.
My question. I have 3 hens setting eggs, should hatch (fingers crossed) something next week or so. Also a Pekin duck. Will/can the heat effect the embryos? I have seen all the ladies stand over their clutches at times to regulate the heat. I'm just wondering if the actual air temp can affect the hatch, I've never had so many go broody when it's this hot, and this is my first batch of duck eggs.
There is ventilation in both houses, and the one the chickens are in has a fan going 24/7 right now since this house isn't allowed to free range.

Gothy in sweltering DE (it was 117* with the index this afternoon)
