Silkies ARE hysterical!! I got two gorgeous blues from Ideal as well. But oh my. I recently contacted a local show-er...4-H person, very serious judging show chickens of all breeds and boy did they ever take the wind out of my sails!! They are judges here, and of course into dubbing the Modern Games, so we don't discuss that when we're talking or we both know we won't be 'friends' much longer....anyway, they really look down their noses at chicks that come from Ideal and that they are only 'pet quality' and never match show standards. It IS interesting, as the Modern Games I got from Ideal this year are H-U-G-E!!! They are nothing like our little Moderns we got from the breeder. The Silkies are pretty darn big too! So I wonder if Ideal is breeding bigger birds, in order to withstand the rigors of shipping and all that. So I also wonder if since a major chick-producer like this, producing thousands, if not millions of chicks that are bigger, will this eventually affect the show chicken industry?
