Re: [CHICKENS-101] Update on ducklings and question

After thinking about your post and doing a bit of research, I'd stop hatching and get the adults on meds.  You'll have to research.  Ducks just don't hatch sick, it's just not a normal problem.  There is a disease in ducks that causes them to flip over.  More ducklings hatching with gunk in eyes on top of the star gazing is sending up a red flag. I think your ducks are dealing with a virulent virus or mycoplasma.  Ducks are rarely sick. Here are a couple of sites  for you to look thru.  I'd look at quarantining the entire flock and treating them.  Liming floors and soil, and trying to get rid of it. Hopefully no one has tracked from the ducks to the chickens. What headache for you. Cathryn

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Update on ducklings and question

The ducklings with the crook neck are improving daily with the advice of vit B complex, minerals, and sugar in water. They are eating and drinking on their own. One continues to have occasional fits but they were a constant problem so it is great to see the improvement.
I set 11 eggs, 10 pipped, 2 died in shell, 8 hatched, one died in the brooder possibly trampled. So I have 7 ducklings. One that hatched last night has crusty stuff in its eyes and it is in the worst shape. My question is-Can I put antibiotics in the water? I know ducks can't have certain medication. What is safe? I know any advice I get here may be too late for this duckling but please respond so I'll know for future possibly soon reference.
I know that before I ever hatch again, my adults need supplements.
