Debbie,
I think you and I would see most things eye to eye. I feel that altering an animal’s body, just for looks, is wrong. I imagine that dubbing made sense to those that used their birds for fighting……..less for the other bird to attack, hold onto and cause blood loss. But since those days are gone, the dubbing isn’t necessary and should be outlawed, imo.
Debudding goats or cattle…….that is a whole nother story! For safety’s sake and property’s sake, debudding makes sense! I have four goats with horns and they are destructive, not to mention pain makers! Even the ones not trying to hurt anyone, they turn their head and accidently bang you with the horns. The only good thing about the horns are that they are good handles to hold onto the goat for herd health!
I also agree with docking lambs tails due to feces and parasites……..and I am sure there is a good argument for the docking of some hunting dogs tails due to brush and briars and cockleburs………but for the most part, I don’t think it is for any reason other than cosmetic.
My little Modern Games will keep their combs and wattles. In fact, I think they are awesome! The way they stand up proud and high and oh so bright red!

I know dubbing is not something we can "discuss" here and I won't take this any further. I AM adamantly against it....I think sometimes we get stuck in a rut as far as standards and customs and we forget that we can step out of them when the "need" for them is outdated and considered unnessary. I probably won't be able to show my Moderns, but I WILL campaign for a class that will allow undubbed Moderns. Sorry for rambling here, but many years ago, I used to be involved with
And I absolutely agree with de-horning goats! Ouch!

To me it is something you do, just like I disbud and tattoo my goat kids. I hate it, they hate it but it had to be done, period. Funny enough they get over it before I do. LOL Carolyn
