When I used fishing line last summer I attached skinny strips of tin foil to
reflect the sunshine and it seemed to help without scaring the chickens.  You
don't need but a few strips.   SUsan

Anne H, My girlfriend uses fishing line rather than cotton line.  The cotton
will weather quickly and will be a real pain if small pieces fall into the pen.
