Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Hatching problem

Gary, When the seller sends old eggs that slosh, that have deteriorated into a slushy mess, wouldn't matter, the eggs would never hatch no matter what. Cathryn.

My opions is that the USPS is just entirely to rough with type of item. If they
get banged around any at all it will destroy the embrio's. If they get x-rayed,
it will kill them. You will be extemely lucky if 50% of shipped eggs hatch and
if the seller sends dirty old eggs, that just compounds the problem.  If the
chicks can't peck out of the egg, it is because of two reasons, unhealthy chicks
or not enough Humidity and the chicks are sticking to the inside of the eggs and
can't get positioned to peck out or peck any more than what they have already.

Where the eggs by any chance shipped eggs? I had the same thing happen to me. I
set 12 shipped eggs in the same incubator at the same time with some of my own
eggs and mine hatched right on schedule strong and healthy while only one of the
shipped eggs hatched yesterday (day 22) and is so week I don't think it's going
to make it. Just trying to figure out what happened. My incubator manual
suggests that in addition to low temps, eggs that are held too long before
setting will hatch too late. Has anybody else heard this?
