I have used Vicks on my animals for years. I first used it on scrapes on my horses which worked so well that I expanded my use.
I just had two roosters get in a huge fight last week and their heads were a mess. I brought them in and washed them off since they looked like they had been in a mud pit fight and applied Vicks to all the damaged areas of their combs/wattles. I also gave them a few drops of red wine because they were shocky, the only alcohol I had, and put them in separate cages in front of the wood stove. I kept them in overnight and by morning after much pampering the day before, they woke me up crowing!!
Vicks is the greatest. I like it even better than bag balm.
