[CHICKENS-101] Re: meat bird with filled body cavity

Thank you so much for the information. It just makes me sick that 5 birds died this way. Ok, so here's my next question, this is my third batch, the first two made it fine to 8 wks with the exception of the legs going out on a few. Why did this happen just post wk 6 this time? Is it the food? The bird? Where the birds came from? Or is it just luck of the draw. I did change the feed. First batch, chicken starter till wk 4 then turkey starter. Second batch turkey starter all 8 wks. This batch turkey starter till wk 4 then chicken starter (non medicated) last 3 wks. This last as it was suggested to me that they would do better with lower protein.

Thanks for your help!

In some animals or people it can lead to depleted pH buffers which can lead to Ascites, lowered immunity, changes in behavior, changes in metabolism, liver & kidney disfunction leading to liver & kidney disease and on it goes.

Any time there is a major change in one of these elements, it will shift the other 3 elements as well. Ascites is primarily potassium/magnesium imbalance due to systematic acidity. In humans effective treatment includes these 2 minerals.
