[CHICKENS-101] How do I breed for feather sexing?

Ok, how do I do it? I've read the rooster has to have a slow feathering gene. How do I know one is? I got eggs from a woman with a flock of mixed chickens.. one rooster that is pure Buff Orpington, and half the hens are BO... I figure the light colored chicks are pure BO.. so I'm keeping those to start my flock.

The chicks have very clear difference in pinion growth at about 3-4 days old. It's about half that have an even row of pinions versus ones with two defined layers. Does this mean that flock has the ability to feather sex? Or is it probably just not accurate at all?

I want to know how to make my upcoming flock able to be feather sexed.. roosters just aren't worth feeding... not enough grazing around here as it is. What is required of the hens for such a program?

I was successful breeding show rabbits back in the day... I'm pretty sure I can handle breeding myself a flock.. I just need to know how to get to those goals since I am new to chicken genetics.

Thanks!
