This year I bought 27 very healthy chicks at the cost of around $75 (with S&H) from McMurray. I am pleased as punch with my birds, but I'd really love to hatch my own. Relying on broody birds is iffy. (BTW - for those who've read about Broody Lilly - she is still sitting on 3 large eggs in her cage and is due to hatch in a week!) So - I am trying to justify the cost of the Hovabator Genesis 1588 with egg turner to keep fresh birds in my flock. I will order it from Cutler Supply as they are by far the best pricing, but its the justification of spending $160 on chickens. I can use both eggs from my birds and someone local sells hatching eggs as well.
