I sure do understand. We're in a similar bind in that we're purchasing this property on a Land Contract, and we used up my retirement (401k) for down payment and paying off some debt when I became disabled. I made good $$, and my husband does as well, though they reecently cut his overtime, and suddenly we are down to 1/3 or less of our former income.We've trimmed things to the bare bone and still have had to borrow against Dan's 401k to stay afloat. Scary times.
Dan is 62 and we're trying to decide when he'll retire, but we both have health issues and health care costs scare me silly. That, and the huge hit we've taken on the value of this place we're on now make things so uncertain. I hate that feeling. And as we know, those of us wiyh chronic health issues are supposed to limit stress. ROFL!

When I can retire, which if the gov has its way, will be never. Did you see where they are now talking about taxing my health benefits that they have been cutting severely along with the cost of living we never get. I took an almost $5,000 pay cut that I was counting on to pay me back for the extra schooling I had to do the last 4 years. I wouldn't need really good health benefits if sick children were kept home. The State of MI lost most of my retirement fund in unsecured insvestment so now I get to pay an extra 3% to make up their wasting my retirement $$ I paid in, on top of more for a health insurance fund. Of ocurse I pay FICA, et.. like everyone else even htough I can never collect it. I'd guess I'll get to move up north permenantly never at the rate the State of MI is going. I'd sure like to know who got the kickbacks on thier unsecured investments. Cathryn
